A former Broward Sheriff’s sergeant who has been repeatedly arrested related to domestic violence allegations is again held in the county jail, his fifth arrest this year.
Scott Nida, 55, was booked into the Broward Main Jail on Thursday on a warrant for allegedly violating the conditions of his pre-trial release in a pending criminal case from April. The former sergeant’s previous arrests relate to allegations of domestic violence that involve a woman with whom he’d been in a relationship for over a decade, court records show.
Before Thursday, Nida was most recently arrested in July after a wellness check led deputies to find him allegedly in violation of an active domestic violence injunction his longtime girlfriend has against him.
After the July arrest, Nida was ordered to participate in a recovery program at James Club Treatment Center in Oakland Park, according to a pre-trial services agreement. Nida was required, in part, to complete the program and follow any treatment recommendations.
On Aug. 25, Nida’s pre-trial services program filed an affidavit that said he violated the terms of the agreement “by failing to reside” at the treatment center and to follow any recommendations. The affidavit said Nida was “discharged” from the James Club program. The affidavit does not provide further details about the alleged violation.

Nida’s defense attorney did not respond to an email seeking comment and further information about the allegation Friday afternoon.
Nida was first arrested in January, accused of dragging and choking the woman during an argument about infidelity, according to court records. Prosecutors declined to pursue the charges after the woman waived prosecution.

The April arrest came after another alleged attack as the woman drove him to his home in Pompano Beach. Nida allegedly grabbed her head and punched her repeatedly while she drove, causing her to bleed, a probable cause affidavit said.
He has pleaded not guilty to charges of domestic battery, false imprisonment, attempted robbery and grand theft auto in that case. The woman filed a formal request for prosecutors to drop all charges in June, court records show, though the case is still pending.

Nida was also arrested in May after a deputy who was called to his home found that the woman had been living with Nida despite the active no-contact order stemming from his April arrest. He was arrested on one count of violating a domestic violence injunction, and the State Attorney’s Office dropped the charge.
The Broward Sheriff’s Office earlier this year filed a petition for a temporary risk protection order against Nida to confiscate any guns and ammunition he owns, which is still in place, court records show.
Nida was hired in 2005 and “separated” with the Sheriff’s Office in June of this year, spokesperson Veda Coleman-Wright previously told the South Florida Sun Sentinel.
