At least six people were shot, with two listed in critical condition, at what is being described as a family gathering in Sanford, police said Sunday.

Sanford Police reported that at 9:54 p.m. on Saturday, 911 received a call reporting a shooting with injuries at 10th Street and Poplar Avenue. “Responding officers located multiple victims suffering from gunshot wounds, with two victims listed in critical condition,” the agency said in a news release.
The police said that it appears there was a family gathering on Poplar Avenue, when suspects began shooting into the crowd. Authorities said they believe the shooting was an isolated incident, although no arrests have been made.

“Our investigators are still working diligently to understand what caused someone to commit such a violent act,” Sanford Police Chief Cecil Smith said. “We need our community to stand together, and if anyone has any additional information, please come forward.”
