Former U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi told CNN on Wednesday that she was diagnosed with thyroid cancer after President Donald Trump fired her in April.

Axios was the first to report on the diagnosis.
Bondi, 60, told the cable news outlet that she was diagnosed after leaving the Justice Department in April. She said she had surgery a few weeks ago and that she’s in recovery and “doing well.”
She is scheduled to testify Friday before the U.S. House Oversight Committee regarding how the Department of Justice under her watch handled the Jeffrey Epstein investigation.
Dr. Ashish Jha, a general internist and senior fellow at the Harvard Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs, told CNN on Wednesday that thyroid cancer is among the most common types of cancer.

“If you’re going to get cancer, it’s one of the good ones,” Jha said, adding that the survival rate at five years after diagnosis is higher than 98%.
“It’s a pretty straightforward cancer to deal with,” Jha told CNN.
Axios also reported also that Bondi will have a new role in the administration, joining the Presidential Council of Advisors on Science and Technology.
