{"id":1021,"date":"2026-05-18T15:06:01","date_gmt":"2026-05-18T15:06:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/orlandorelocationreport.com\/?p=1021"},"modified":"2026-05-18T15:06:01","modified_gmt":"2026-05-18T15:06:01","slug":"florida-women-complete-rare-sec-triple-crown-under-coach-mike-holloway","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/orlandorelocationreport.com\/?p=1021","title":{"rendered":"Florida women complete rare SEC triple crown under coach Mike Holloway"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<div>\n<p>GAINESVILLE \u2014 Florida track and field coach Mike Holloway added another milestone to his championship r\u00e9sum\u00e9 as the Gators women\u2019s team entered rarefied air at the SEC Outdoor Championships.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/orlandorelocationreport.com\/?p=1019\">Editorial: Legislature divvies up dollars in the dark<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Gators cruised to the team title to complete the program\u2019s first triple crown since the 1996-97 season under the late Tom Jones, sweeping the conference\u2019s cross country, indoor and outdoor championships.<\/p>\n<p>The victory marked the 20th SEC team title under Holloway, who joined the Gators as an assistant in 1995, became the men\u2019s head coach in 2002 and succeeded Jones in 2008.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c(Winning the triple crown) puts us amongst the elite,\u201d Holloway said. \u201cI want to give a shoutout to Coach Jones. His squad was the last one to do it, and it\u2019s just a wonderful thing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m almost speechless.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Winning their eight SEC outdoor championship, the Florida women finished with 107 points \u2014 their highest total since posting 112 in 2023 \u2014 and finished 20\u00bd points ahead of runner-up Alabama. The Gators men placed third with 78 points behind winner Arkansas (110\u00bd) and Alabama (94\u00bd).<\/p>\n<p>Alida van Daalen continued her dominance in the discus, capturing her third SEC title with a throw of 218 feet, 10 inches on her final attempt to break her own conference championship record.<\/p>\n<p>Asia Phillips won the triple jump with a career-best leap of 44 feet, seven inches.<\/p>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<p>On the track, senior Gabrielle Matthews became the Gators\u2019 first SEC champion in the 100-meter dash since Kyra Jefferson in 2016, winning in 10.97 seconds \u2014 second-fastest in school history. Matthews also finished four in the 200.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/orlandorelocationreport.com\/?p=1017\">Central Florida teen killed on Carnival ship posthumously honored at graduation: report<\/a><\/p>\n<p>In the 1,500 meters, Tia Wilson narrowly lost to Salma Elbadra of South Carolina by just .04 seconds after finishing in 4:09.84, while Claire Stegall finished third in 4:11.17, edging Kentucky\u2019s Doricah Minsar Isoe by .01.<\/p>\n<p>Layla Haynes of Barbados finished third in the 800 meters and set the national record with a time of 1:59.38. In the 5,000, Hilda Olemomoi also took third in 15:47.14.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe ladies were just on a mission all weekend. It was wonderful; it was all outstanding,\u201d Holloway said.<\/p>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<p>In the men\u2019s 1,500, Oussama Allaoui finished second with a time of 3:43.72.
