BALTIMORE\u00a0\u2014 The Rays got walked off for a second straight day.<\/p>\n

After taking leads in the 11th, 12th and 13th innings, they lost 9-7 Monday afternoon when the\u00a0Orioles\u00a0rallied for four runs in the bottom of the 13th off reliever\u00a0Jesse Scholtens.<\/p>\n

Leody Taveras\u00a0doubled in one run, Jackson Holliday\u2019s sac fly scored the second, and a\u00a0Colton Cowser\u00a0two-run homer provided the winning margin.<\/p>\n

The end came after several eventful innings.<\/p>\n

The Rays took a 4-2 lead in the 11th on a long and loud two-run homer by newly-acquired\u00a0Victor Mesa Jr., who made amends for a seventh-inning throwing error that gave the\u00a0Orioles\u00a0a 2-1 lead.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Orioles\u00a0then got even in their 11th, with two runs on singles to left off\u00a0Ian Seymour. First by\u00a0Pete Alonso\u00a0(with Chandler Simpson\u2019s throw hitting runner Adley Rutschman\u2019s foot, allowing Alonso to advance to second). Then by\u00a0Jeremiah Jackson\u00a0to score Alonso.<\/p>\n

The Rays went back ahead in their 12th as the speedy Simpson moved to third on a\u00a0Junior Caminero\u00a0fly-out and scored on a sac fly by\u00a0Jonathan Aranda, extending his AL-leading RBI total to 30.<\/p>\n

Then the O\u2019s got even again.<\/p>\n

They scored on a fielder\u2019s choice grounder to first by\u00a0Gunnar Henderson\u00a0when Cowser was first called out on a slide into home, then safe after a replay review. Rays catcher\u00a0Nick Fortes\u00a0was shaken up on the play and as he was on the ground when Henderson advanced to third. Rays manager\u00a0Kevin Cash\u00a0went out to talk with the umpires and Henderson was sent back to first. Then the\u00a0Orioles\u00a0challenged the call at home and Cowser was ruled safe.<\/p>\n

The Rays took a 7-5 lead in the 13th when former long-time Oriole\u00a0Cedric Mullins\u00a0delivered a run for the Rays in the 13th with a single to left. They added another on a sac fly by Fortes.<\/p>\n

After being walked off Sunday in\u00a0New York\u00a0on Aaron Judge\u2019s ninth-inning homer, the Rays (34-17) lost back-to-back games for the first time since\u00a0April 20-21.<\/p>\n

After being shut out Sunday at\u00a0Yankee Stadium, the Rays put up five more zeroes on Monday before Aranda homered leading off the sixth.<\/p>\n

The 371-foot drive to right-center hit just above the outfield fence and bounced back, but was good enough to give the Rays a 1-0 lead.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Orioles\u00a0grabbed the lead with two runs in the seventh.<\/p>\n

Taveras drew a leadoff walk, stole second and went to third when Hunter Bigge\u2019s pickoff throw to second bounced into the outfield. He scored easily when\u00a0Blaze Alexander\u00a0dropped a single in front of Simpson.<\/p>\n

Alexander then came around to score when\u00a0Taylor Ward\u00a0singled to right. Mesa, called up Sunday to replace the injured\u00a0Jonny DeLuca, sailed his throw over third base and the ball rolled into an out-of-play area, with the umpires sending Alexander home.<\/p>\n

The Rays came back to get even in the eighth.<\/p>\n

Yandy Diaz\u00a0laced a one-out double to center and when to third on Taveras\u2019 misplay.\u00a0Richie Palacios\u00a0delivered a single to score pinch-runner\u00a0Oliver Dunn.<\/p>\n

Shane McClanahan, enjoying the return to his birthplace as usual, delivered another strong outing, officially 5 1\/3 scoreless innings, allowing three hits and two walks.<\/p>\n

He was tough on the\u00a0Orioles\u00a0hitters throughout, but his most memorable sequence came in the fifth.<\/p>\n

McClanahan fielded a Taveras bunt and tried to fling it from his glove to Aranda at first, but the ball went well wide of the base. That allowed Taveras to go to second, and McClanahan patted his chest a few times to indicate he knew it was his fault.<\/p>\n

After a ground-out and a walk put two\u00a0Orioles\u00a0on with two outs, McClanahan scooped up Tyler O\u2019Neill\u2019s slow roller, made a strong and accurate throw to first for the final out and pumped his fist coming off the field in mock honor of making the play.<\/p>\n
