MIAMI GARDENS \u2014 The injury news for Dolphins veteran guard Jamaree Salyer and rookie wide receiver Caleb Douglas is encouraging, as neither sustained a serious injury during Wednesday\u2019s minicamp practice session, according to coach Jeff Hafley.<\/span><\/p>

Salyer, who figures to be a key backup but could push for a starting job, left practice on a cart Wednesday. He wasn\u2019t expected to practice in Thursday\u2019s final session of this week\u2019s three-day minicamp.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s doing OK,\u201d Hafley said without specifying the injury, and adding, \u201cI do not think it\u2019ll be anything long term.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Douglas, the lanky third-round pick from Texas Tech, was seen riding a stationary bicycle Wednesday. Douglas wasn\u2019t expected to practice Thursday but could return next week during organized team activities.<\/p>\n

\u201cCaleb Douglas just tweaked something,\u201d Hafley said. \u201cI imagine he\u2019ll be out today. Hopefully we\u2019ll have him back next week.\u201d<\/p>\n

Reverence for Wannstedt<\/h4>\n

Dave Wannstedt, the ex-Dolphins coach (2000-04), has been at this week\u2019s minicamp as Hafley\u2019s guest. Wannstedt, who lives roughly two hours away in Naples, gave Hafley his start in coaching on his staff at Pitt in 2006.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cYou guys know he\u2019s one of my biggest mentors,\u201d said Hafley, who spent the past two years as Green Bay\u2019s defensive coordinator. \u201cHe really gave me my first kind of break into Division I football and spent five years with him. I\u2019ve pretty much talked to him all throughout. Last year I talked to him probably once a week. I\u2019d call him, sometimes I\u2019d be texting him right before kickoff.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Hafley treasures his relationship with Wannstedt greatly.<\/span><\/p>

\u201cI don\u2019t take that for granted that a guy that kind of gave me my start, now he\u2019s still supportive of me, and I\u2019m in a role that he was in,\u201d Hafley said. \u201cA big part of why I\u2019m here is because of everything he did, and he helped change my life and my family\u2019s life. He\u2019s in Naples, he wants to come around, and he\u2019ll be around. So he\u2019ll be here this week, but it\u2019s great to see him out there.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Hafley\u2019s morning film sessions<\/h4>\n

Hafley, who is as intense and detail-oriented as any recent Dolphins coach, discussed how much effort means to him and the team when he said he meets with the team every morning and shows them 30 to 40 film clips that highlight effort, good and bad, by offensive and defensive players.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat is the most important thing to me,\u201d Hafley said of effort.<\/p>\n

Hafley likes recognizing good stuff and telling players that\u2019s what he wants to see.<\/p>

\u201cI\u2019ll call guys out by name, I\u2019ll call them out by number, and I\u2019ll applaud them for that,\u201d he said.<\/p>

He does the same thing for bad plays.<\/p>\n

Hafley said he talks about ball security for the offense and stripping the ball for the defense during the film sessions.<\/p>\n

\u201cI <\/span><\/span>talk <\/span><\/span>about <\/span><\/span>fundamentals <\/span><\/span>and <\/span><\/span>technique,\u201d he said. \u201c<\/span><\/span><\/span>I <\/span><\/span>pull <\/span><\/span>out <\/span><\/span>plays <\/span><\/span>on <\/span><\/span>both <\/span><\/span>sides <\/span><\/span>of <\/span><\/span>the <\/span><\/span>ball, <\/span><\/span>and <\/span><\/span>I <\/span><\/span>show <\/span><\/span>good <\/span><\/span>execution, <\/span><\/span>poor <\/span><\/span>execution, <\/span><\/span>why <\/span><\/span>it <\/span><\/span>happened. <\/span><\/span> <\/span>I <\/span><\/span>try <\/span><\/span>to <\/span><\/span>show <\/span><\/span>the <\/span><\/span>offense <\/span><\/span>how <\/span><\/span>the <\/span><\/span>defense <\/span><\/span>made <\/span><\/span>a <\/span><\/span>mistake, <\/span><\/span>and <\/span><\/span>the <\/span><\/span>defense <\/span><\/span>how <\/span><\/span>the <\/span><\/span>offense <\/span><\/span>took <\/span><\/span>advantage <\/span><\/span>of <\/span><\/span>it. <\/span><\/span> <\/span>And <\/span><\/span>I <\/span><\/span>try <\/span><\/span>to <\/span><\/span>teach.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
