Now, King has transformed what once felt like an obstacle into one of his greatest assets on the mound.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cIt\u2019s a struggle I\u2019m gonna have my entire life,\u201d King told the Orlando Sentinel. \u201cBut in some ways, I can use it to my advantage. I understand things differently. It might take me a lot longer, but it\u2019s just not taking that as a negative.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cIt\u2019s an obstacle. I gotta move past it. It\u2019s a hitter. I gotta move past him \u2026 I gotta get him out.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Whether in the classroom or at the ballpark, King has learned to handle adversity with aplomb.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cGetting into a difficult spot, like bases loaded, I can just step back and take a breath and just be like, \u2018This is just another obstacle,\u2019\u201d he said. \u201c\u2018I can find my way out of this, somehow, some way.\u2019\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Entering Thursday\u2019s regular season-ending series at LSU, King finds himself in the conversation of the SEC\u2019s top pitchers and the best during <\/span><span>Florida coach Kevin O\u2019Sullivan\u2019s 19 seasons<\/span><span> \u2014- a stretch featuring nine pitchers selected in the first round of the MLB draft.<\/span><\/p>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<p><span>The Gators\u2019 ace reminds O\u2019Sullivan one of them: Brady Singer, King\u2019s favorite former Florida pitcher.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cHe\u2019s got that competitive spirit that\u2019s hard to find,\u201d O\u2019Sullivan said of King. \u201cThe word conviction for me pretty much tells you everything you need to know about him. He doesn\u2019t second guess what pitch he\u2019s throwing.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>King had a chance to watch Singer during the 2018 College World Series when his Jacksonville traveling team made a trip to Omaha, Nebraska, to play in the <\/span><span>Triple Crown Baseball<\/span> <span>tournament.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cIt was an opportunity to show these kids the hard work and dedication and where it can get you,\u201d King\u2019s father, Chris, recalled. \u201cHe always liked Brady Singer, and we still have a picture of them down there on the fence line. It was a great opportunity to showcase what the College World Series is about. And then they got the chance to go see the one player that he\u2019s always liked as a pitcher.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<p><span>King hopes to follow in the footsteps of Singer, who helped the Gators to the 2017 national title and is now in his seventh MLB season.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>King, meanwhile, is building a Singer-like r\u00e9sum\u00e9.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>After earning Freshman All-America honors with a 7-2 record and 2.58 ERA in 2025, King has elevated his game to another level this spring.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>His .89 WHIP ranks second nationally, his 6.08 hits allowed per nine innings leads the SEC and his 2.19 ERA is second to Texas star Dylan Volantis (2.13). King has recorded 77 strikeouts in 74 innings while issuing just 16 walks.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>O\u2019Sullivan \u2014 a former college catcher at Virginia known for developing pitchers \u2014 said King posesses the rare ability to attack all four quadrants of the strike zone, while challenging both right- and left-handed hitters with inside pitches or changeups.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The 6-foot-2, 205-pound King also excels at holding runners on base and has not committed an error in 13 appearances.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cHe\u2019s just a complete pitcher,\u201d O\u2019Sullivan said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>King also shares Singer\u2019s approach on the mound.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cI always thought I pitched like him, had a mentality like him,\u201d King said. \u201cYou go out there, \u2018I\u2019m gonna beat you. And if you beat me, I\u2019m gonna tip my cap, but you\u2019re not gonna get me again.\u2019\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/orlandorelocationreport.com\/?p=531\">Maxwell: There\u2019s a big mayoral election this year, and it\u2019s not for Orlando<\/a><\/p>\n<p><span>King, who is 7-2 in 13 appearances, entered last Friday\u2019s visit from Kentucky riding a dominant stretch that included a 1.51 ERA over his previous five starts and a career-high 10 strikeouts at Oklahoma.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>He opened against the Wildcats by striking out the first two hitters on six pitches, then needed just four more to retire the next batter \u2014 one pitch shy of an immaculate inning, the holy grail for pitchers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Kentucky eventually settled in, though, tagging King for three RBI doubles before chasing him with the Gators trailing 4-1.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Two days later, following Florida\u2019s series-clinching 9-6 Senior Day victory, King said he still took \u201ca lot of positives\u201d from his toughest SEC outing of the season<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Not only did the Gators rally from a 6-1 deficit for a dramatic 7-6 victory in the series opener, but King also managed 6 \u2154 innings and 93 pitches after throwing 114 on May 1 at Oklahoma and 121 pitches April 24 against Texas A&amp;M.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cWe are super proud of of where he\u2019s come and living out his dream,\u201d Chris King said. \u201cHe\u2019s doing everything he can to get to Omaha \u2026 and being a teammate, not an individual, and trying to bring the team together.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Aidan King will be rested, ready and resolute entering a three-game trip to LSU as the No. 9 Gators (34-18, 15-12 SEC) prepare for the postseason.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Pitching in the CWS for Florida has been King\u2019s dream \u2014 and perhaps his destiny.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>His grandfather, Dennis Blank, and his mother, Tracy, are Florida graduates. Whenever possible, the family made the 90-minute trip from Jacksonville to Gainesville to watch the Gators play.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Yet, when it came time to choose a college before his senior season, O\u2019Sullivan offered King preferred walk-on status. The family\u2019s college fund gave their son the option to accept.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>King didn\u2019t settle. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The following spring, he led the Florida high school pitchers with 144 strikeouts and posted a 1.09 ERA at Jacksonville\u2019s Bishop John L. Snyder, convincing O\u2019Sullivan to award him a full scholarship.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cHe was driven,\u201d King\u2019s father said. \u201cHe wanted to dominate.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Pitching is King\u2019s gift, but it also became his escape.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>When he was diagnosed with dyslexia \u2014 a condition his father also manages \u2014 King retreated inward.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cIt wasn\u2019t easy,\u201d he said. \u201cI didn\u2019t really want to answer questions in class. I didn\u2019t want to put myself out there, because I was afraid of being wrong.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Now the chief of technology and operational support for Jacksonville Sheriff\u2019s Office, Chris King recognized the same visual-processing strengths in his son.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cHe sees what\u2019s going on, because he\u2019s a visual learner. I\u2019m a visual learner,\u201d Chris said. \u201cI see things, and I can make adjustments based on what I\u2019m seeing. He\u2019s on that mound, he\u2019s in control, he\u2019s watching what the batter does. He knows what to do next.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThat\u2019s just his release.
