{"id":6335,"date":"2026-07-03T10:34:29","date_gmt":"2026-07-03T10:34:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/orlandorelocationreport.com\/?p=6335"},"modified":"2026-07-03T10:34:29","modified_gmt":"2026-07-03T10:34:29","slug":"orlando-sentinel-150-friday-flashback-to-july-4-parade-in-1886","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/orlandorelocationreport.com\/?p=6335","title":{"rendered":"Orlando Sentinel 150: Friday Flashback to July 4 parade in 1886"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<div>\n<p>Even back in its early days, Orlando loved a parade \u2013\u00a0especially a patriotic one.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/orlandorelocationreport.com\/?p=6333\">Families of wrongly convicted Groveland Four offer thanks for $4M state compensation<\/a><\/p>\n<p>This parade photo, believed to be from 1886, is historic in several ways.<\/p>\n<p>It shows the July 4 Independence Day parade down Church Street in downtown Orlando, with horse-drawn carriages decorated festively for the occasion.<\/p>\n<p>According to Orlando historian Eve Bacon, in her book \u201cOrlando: A Centennial History,\u201d 1886 marked the beginning of Orlando\u2019s first horse-led street car, the building of Orlando\u2019s second railway station on East Pine Street, the opening of Joseph Bumby\u2019s new two-story brick hardware store on West Church Street and the start of telephone connections between Orlando and Sanford.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/orlandorelocationreport.com\/?p=6331\">Today in History: July 3, beloved TV sheriff Andy Griffith dies<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Also notable about this photograph is the person who took it: Stanley J. Morrow.<\/p>\n<p>He was a noted photographer of the 1800s, beginning his career during the Civil War when he worked for famous photographer Mathew Brady. Morrow established a name for himself with his photographs of the American West including Native Americans and soldiers.
