Trump doesn\u2019t care for Americans<\/h4>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t think about Americans\u2019 financial situation.\u201d Those are the unimaginable and soulless words that came from the mouth of the current president of the United States on Tuesday when asked about the impact of the Iran war on U.S. consumers. I think it\u2019s hard to take any facts as being true when they come from his mouth. His actions are, in my view, heartless and incompetent; he is an untrusted serial liar. In this case, what the elected (a fact I still find impossible to accept) leader of the nation says appears to reveal his state of mind. If that is their president\u2019s policy, I challenge those readers of your newspaper, whose votes anointed a would-be king, to justify his indifference to the economic hardships he has brought to bear upon the Americans whose plight he claims to not think about but who are paying the tab for his (so far failed) unauthorized war.<\/p>\n

Administration focused on minutiae<\/h4>\n

The United States is in a war with Iran, despite it not having been declared by Congress. Those of us who paid attention in high school social studies know that only Congress can declare war. For four long years, I listened while critics of the Biden administration lamented the 13 lives lost in the disastrous pullout from Afghanistan. So far, in this conflict, 14 lives have been lost.<\/p>\n

Yet, despite that, the president is focused on relining the Reflecting Pool that enhances two national monuments in Washington, D.C. (which he calls a pond), building a ballroom to replace the East Wing (which he destroyed), building a new and giant arch in the nation\u2019s capital, and selecting armrests for the Kennedy Center. It might seem as though these words were ripped from the satirical website, The Onion, but they were not.<\/p>\n

And, in a \u201chold my beer\u201d moment, the Secretary of Transportation, Sean Duffy, decided this was the perfect time for a seven-month family roadtrip \u2013 paid for and sponsored by the very companies his department regulates.<\/p>\n

The list of officials in the Trump cabinet who are actually doing their jobs dwindles daily.<\/p>\n

Rebellion \u2018is a good thing\u2019<\/h4>\n

The Trumplicans\u2019 justification for their One Big Beautiful Bill was that tariffs would offset any lost tax revenue.<\/p>\n

Well, the Supreme Court shot that down. But the billionaires\u2019 tax cuts remain.<\/p>\n

The national debt has surpassed the GDP, Social Security and Medicare face looming financial crises, inflation is rising, families are struggling \u2014 and yet Congress does nothing.<\/p>\n

I recall Ross Perot\u2019s warnings from the early 1990s of unsustainable debt. His proposed solutions to balancing the budget were unpalatable to most Americans but he raised awareness of the need for financial restraint that led to budget surpluses.<\/p>\n

I fear that what needs to be done today to get this country back on the right road will be far worse than what Perot proposed.<\/p>\n

Congress has abdicated its power to an oligarchy of billionaires. To quote Thomas Jefferson, \u201cA little rebellion now and then is a good thing.\u201d<\/p>\n

It\u2019s time for a political rebellion this primary season, and in November, by voting out all incumbents regardless of their party affiliation. Perhaps then the career politicians will know Americans are fed up and have had enough.<\/p>\n
