Deputies attempted to pull the car over around 11:50 a.m. at 25th Street near S.R. 417 in Sanford, but the suspect kept driving and fled the area. The sheriff’s office sent up a helicopter to conduct aerial surveillance of the suspect but declined to give chase on the ground out of concern for drivers’ safety, the agency said in a news release.

The suspect headed southbound on U.S. Highway 17-92, at times going over 100 mph, before entering Casselberry. He broadsided another car, fatally injuring both people inside, while driving near Sunnytown Lane around 12:05 p.m. He was taken into custody at the scene and brought to a hospital, the release said.
