After falling back to $3.60 a gallon in late June, gas prices have bumped back up more than 20 cents in Florida over the last two weeks, according to AAA.

The average price statewide for a gallon or regular unleaded gasoline was $3.82 on Sunday as tensions between the U.S. and Iran re-escalated over the weekend concerning control of the Strait of Hormuz. The national average was even higher at close to $3.88 per gallon.

Crude oil prices have climbed as a result, increasing almost $2.50 a barrel since Friday.

“Concerns about potential fuel supply disruptions have nudged oil prices higher,” said AAA spokesperson Mark Jenkins. “With tensions in the Middle East adding uncertainty to the global oil market, gas prices could remain volatile in the coming weeks.”

The price has had a see-saw run in July declining early last week, then rising 13 cents. The price still is still 8 cents less than a month ago, but 86 cents more than a year ago.

As of Monday morning, the average price in Central Florida was highest in Osceola County at $3.83 per gallon, followed by $3.82 in Orange and Volusia counties, $3.81 in Seminole, Polk and Brevard counties and $3.79 in Lake County.

Monroe County, which includes the Florida Keys, was highest in the state at $4.14 per gallon.

Also in South Florida, Palm Beach County was among the highest in the state at $3.96 per gallon while Broward was at $3.87 and Miami-Dade at $3.81.

The least expensive markets in the state are all in the Panhandle with Pensacola at $3.57, Panama City at $3.58 and Crestview-Fort Walton Beach at $3.63.

The West Palm Beach-Boca Raton market is the most expensive in the state at $3.98 a gallon, followed by Naples at $3.91 and Fort Lauderdale at $3.88.

Gas prices hit a high of $4.52 per gallon in the state on May 7, but have fallen back over the past two months as peace efforts in Iran seemed to be working.

Florida’s record high price for gas came during Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in summer 2022 when it hit $4.89 a gallon.
