The Sean Sweeney era of the Orlando Magic has an official start date.
The Magic begin the regular season Oct. 21 against the Atlanta Hawks at Kia Center at 7 p.m., the NBA revealed Thursday.

After years as a college coach and an NBA assistant coach, Sweeney is embarking on his first head coaching job. The Magic fired Jamal Mosley in May, days after the team failed to advance out of the first round of the playoffs for a third consecutive year.
The Magic’s 2026-27 schedule has its share of challenges, including 14 times when the team must play back-to-back games. The longest road trip of the season is nine days from March 10-18, but there are five games packed in that stretch.
The longest homestand of the season is 13 days, from Feb. 25-March 9, with six games sprinkled over that time.
The Magic’s last home game is April 9 vs. Toronto, and then the regular season wraps up April 11 at Miami.
The Magic will play each of their four Southeast Division rivals — Miami, Charlotte, Atlanta and Washington — four times. They will play the other teams in the Eastern Conference 36 times and 30 games (home-and-home series) against teams from the Western Conference.
Miami features its new lineup built around trade acquisition Giannis Antetokounmpo. Washington’s roster is headed by AJ Dybantsa, the No. 1 pick in this year’s NBA draft.

Mosley was hired by the New Orleans Pelicans on May 18. Orlando visits New Orleans on Jan. 8, and Mosley will return to the Kia Center with his new club Feb. 2.
The Magic will play the defending NBA champion New York Knicks three times. Orlando is at Madison Square Garden on Oct. 25; the Knicks will be in Orlando on March 28 and March 30. LeBron James and his new team, the Philadelphia 76ers, will face the Magic three times, too, all before the end of 2026: Nov. 18 in Orlando, Dec. 12 in Philadelphia and Dec. 14 in Orlando.
The team begins the journey with the start of training camp Sept. 29. Preseason exhibition games were scheduled earlier in the summer, beginning with an Oct. 7 game in Memphis at 8 p.m. and ending with an Oct. 16 game against the Heat at Kia Center at 7 p.m.
