Lake County sheriff’s deputies shot and killed an armed man Thursday in Leesburg.

Deputies responded around 3 p.m. to a residence on Morningside Drive after receiving a call about an armed domestic battery. They encountered Erik Leopold Sharpe, 32, who was armed with a handgun, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

The agency said Sharpe’s actions forced deputies to open fire, killing him. No other information about the incident was included in the release.

No deputies were harmed. As is standard procedure, the deputies involved were placed on leave while the Florida Department of Law Enforcement investigates the shooting, the release said.
