Week 3 of high school football has Friday games scheduled tonight, but weather got in the way for awhile as storms roll through Central Florida. Rain won’t always force postponements or stoppages — but lightning in the vicinity does.

Conditions got better as the storms moved up the I-4 corridor towards the Atlantic Ocean.
Tonight’s slate has 10 Sentinel Super 16 teams playing at home. And the No. 3 Jones at No. 8 Evans “Soul Bowl” rivalry game is set for 4 p.m. Saturday. Before Friday, there was one makeup game on Monday and three Thursday night games.

No. 4 Edgewater defeated Windermere, 42-28

Edgewater needed a big response after a tough loss to The First Academy, and they delivered it in spades.
Running back Jaelyn Powell rushed for over 200 yards, scoring four touchdowns as the Eagles (2-1) defeated a game Windermere (1-2) team.
“Jaelyn is a great kid, a great student,” said Edgewater head coach Patrick Browning. “He does everything he needs to do during the week to prepare for the game, everything he needs to do in the offseason, and he’s a steal for any college that ends up getting him.”
Powell ended the night with 215 yards.
Kickoff was delayed an hour and a half due to weather, which seemed to affect both teams starting out but Edgewater found its rhythm on offense quickly and never looked back, even when it had to fend off Windermere’s late challenge.
The Edgewater defense was not to be outdone as they forced seven turnovers, intercepting Windermere quarterback Dean Monroe twice. Octavius Lewis and Kamar Sterling were the lucky recipients of Monroe’s two wayward passes.
Bryce Jackson and Jack Aicher also ran for touchdowns.
With Edgewater leading 28-7 going into the fourth quarter, Windermere was able to crawl back to make it 28-21 after Onix Vazquez’s 60-yard punt return for a touchdown with 9:17 left in the game. The Eagles then put the hammer down, scoring two more times to reassert their win.

Windermere (1-1) takes its first crack at Edgewater (1-1), which is 48-5 against Orange County Public School teams in a 10-year span dating to 2017. The Eagles play their final eight regular season games against OCPS foes.
Windermere (1-1) dropped out of its first appearance in the Super 16 after losing to Innovation last week, 29-26. That snapped a three-year 21-game win streak.
No. 6 West Orange defeated Wekiva 59-6

West Orange moved to 3-0 with a dominate performance against the Mustangs (2-1) at Warrior Stadium.
Junior quarterback Andrew “AJ” Chung threw for 174 yards and three touchdowns, which all came in the first half. Two of his TD throws were to senior wide receiver Yuto Kawamura-Johnson. Chung connected with Kawamura-Johnson on a 61-yard and a 42-yard touchdown.
“He’s explosive,” said West Orange coach Geno Thompson on Kawamura-Johnson, who finished with four catches for 138 yards. “We have him wear the GPS’s, and last week he hit 22 miles per hour. So, I’m kind of excited to see how fast he was tonight.”
The Warriors built a 52-0 halftime lead and established a running clock in the third quarter. The Mustangs could not muster up any offense in the one-sided affair.
“The kids do a good job focusing on their assignment, and executing at a high level,” Thompson said. “Obviously, we’re going to start the beef of our schedule. We got Ocoee, then Lake Mary, then Edgewater. We get to really test to see how good we are.”

No. 15 Osceola defeated No 5 Lake Mary, 17-9

Four turnovers and just enough offense helped Osceola defeat Lake Mary on Friday – and for the first time ever – on the road.
The Kowboys (2-1) held the Rams (1-1), a state champion in 2025, to five yards of offense in the first half of a game delayed two hours by lightning.
Osceola got first-half interceptions from Dorian Wright and Amir Davis in the first half and fumble recoveries by Dory Thimote and Jason Lewis in the second half to keep the Rams from mounting any comeback, despite Lake Mary quarterback Remy Jarman (12-for-25 passing for 131 yards) leading two scoring drives to pull the Rams within a score.
“From a defensive perspective, we played great,” OHS Coach Eric Pinellas said. “Our defensive line was outstanding, and our DBs covered all night. From an offensive perspective we were physical, we wore them down up front, and we ran hard.”
Osceola took a 10-0 lead midway through the second quarter when field goal holder Josue Rivera, for the second week in a row, handled a bad snap and ran for a touchdown. Osceola widened the lead on a Devontay Barnett 2-yard run after he scampered 66 yards on the first play of the second half. The Kowboys then played two quarters of bend-but-don’t-break defense and got the two fumbles to prevent any Rams momentum.
Next week Osceola hosts Lakeland in a Class 5A District 6 matchup while Lake Mary hosts DeLand in a clash of state powers.

After Osceola free safety Dorian Wright intercepted a pass by Lake Mary quarterback Remy Jarman and returned it to the Rams 37, it stays scoreless. Kowboys kicker Brayden Buehler’s 30-yard field goal was wide right with 5:08 left in the first quarter.
And we’ve kicked off in Lake Mary. The Rams start with the ball against Osceola after a two-hour lightning delay that gave us a beautiful rainbow prior to sunset.

No. 10 Bishop Moore defeated Melbourne Central Catholic, 42-13

Bishop Moore quarterback Blake McCullough threw for 269 yards and four touchdowns as the Hornets picked up their first win of the season and coach Matt Hedrick’s 200th career win.
McCullough had two touchdown passes in the first quarter, finding Cale Britt on a broken play at the goal line on fourth down for a two-yard score and Drew Follett for a 53-yard strike to put the Hornets up 22-0 at the end of the first quarter.
McCullough added two more in the second quarter, with passes to Magnus Talma for 54-yards midway through the second quarter and Matthew Sullivan with less than two minutes to play for a 35-7 halftime lead.

“It’s no fun to lose your first two games, period,” Hedrick said. “We played some good teams and we lose some opportunities. Getting a win is good going into district play.”
The Hornets (1-2) scored in spite of themselves in many ways. Bishop Moore committed more than 20 penalties, accounting for nearly 200 yards. Two infractions took touchdowns off the board.
The Hornets stayed ahead because of McCullough’s timely passing and big plays, but also because of a stingy defense.
Even though Bishop Moore scored only seven points in the second half – on a 44-yard pass from backup quarterback Orion Olmstead to Micah Clark late in the fourth quarter – Melbourne Central Catholic (2-1) was unable to get good field position or cash in on their few scoring attempts.
Bishop Moore sacked quarterback Trenton Washington six times, including on the final play of the first half with MCC near the goal line. Five of the sacks came in the second half.
And the Hornets forced two turnovers – an interception in the first half and a fumble recovery at the goal line late in the fourth quarter.
“Our defense is playing really well. We know we have a really good group over there. We’re not surprised. We have to lean on them until we can execute a little better on offense.”
The win gave the Hornets some relief after an overtime loss to Rural Division state champ Hawthorne in Week 1 and a loss in California to Palos Altos last week.
After the game, the school celebrated Hedrick’s 200 wins — all at Bishop Moore.
“It’s a great honor for the school,” Hedrick said. “The success of our program over the last bunch of year is a credit to the kids, the coaches and the administration. I’m just really proud to be the head coach of Bishop Moore.”

No. 11 Oviedo defeated No. 13 Lake Brantley, 35-28 (overtime)

Oviedo football coach Greg Odierno was starting to think the football gods had something against him.
After watching two opponents kick game-winning field goals in the final seconds of the Lions first two games, they were sitting 0-2, with the two losses by a total of three points.
On Friday night Oviedo (1-2) got on the right side of a game that could have gone either way. The Lions looked to be coasting to their first victory of the season with a 21-7 halftime lead over the Patriots (2-1). But Brantley score three straight touchdowns in the second half to take a 28-21 with only 1:34 left in the game.
The Lions were not going to let it happen again. Quarterback Sebastian Galeano hooked up with receiver Jordan Donahoo, an Ohio State commit, on two straight passing plays — the first one for 40 yards and the second one for a 30-yard touchdown to tie the game and send it to overtime.
In OT, Galeano scored on a fourth-down play from the 3 yard line and the game ended with four straight incomplete passes by Lake Brantley quarterback Jackson Stecher.
“Whew, it’s about time,” Odierno said of the first victory of the season. “I’m just proud of our guys. We had our backs against the wall we came through and we needed to. A total team effort.
“That’s a good football team, Lake Brantley.”

No. 2 The First Academy defeats Port Charlotte, 23-20 (overtime)
TFA (3-0) used a field goal by Vance Fones at the buzzer to force overtime in a 20-20 tie. The Royals then pulled out the victory with another field goal by Fones in the overtime session.
Port Charlotte missed a field goal attempt to tie the game.
Port Charlotte led TFA 13-0 going into the second quarter. The Pirates opened the game with a surprise onside kick recovery, and drove for a TD. Then, TFA lost a fumble on its next possession, and Port Charlotte turned it into another TD.
PRE-GAME NOTE:
TFA (2-0), coming off a 21-14 win at Edgewater, plays a Pirates (1-1) team that went 11-3 last season — losing to Jones in a state semifinal 35-23.
No. 9 Lake Nona at No. 16 Winter Park
Lake Nona (2-0) goes to Showalter Field to face the host Wildcats (1-1) in a game where no love is lost.
Winter Park is 12-1 against the Lions with nine wins a row since 2017.

No. 12 East Ridge at Lake Minneola
The Lake County rivals meet for the first time in three years.
Lake Minneola (1-1) has owned the Knights (2-0) since they pulled out a 40-36 win in 2018. That ignited a string of six lopsided wins against East Ridge where the average final score was 53-7 from 2019 through 2024.
The Knights are clearly an improved team.
No. 14 St. Cloud defeated South Sumter, 41-34 (two overtimes)
South Sumter’s fourth down pass falls incomplete.
This time St. Cloud gets the ball first, and on its second down, Matthew Blenman catches an 8-yard TD pass to give the Bulldogs a 41-34 lead. South Sumter now gets its four snaps.
That means a second overtime session. Each team again gets four plays from 10 yards out.
St. Cloud runs the ball four straight times, and finally gets it in on a 1-yard QB sneak by Jeremiah Lattier. Tied at 34-34 going to second overtime.
South Sumter got the ball first in overtime and scored on the first play on a 10-yard TD pass, South Sumter 34, St. Cloud 27 with Bulldogs getting the ball now.

Prior to the missed field goal try, St. Cloud’s kicker did boot the ball through the uprights for what could have been the game-winner. But officials ruled that South Sumter stopped the clock with a time out before the ball was snapped.
