A 20-year-old Winter Garden woman riding an electric scooter died when she was struck by a car in west Orange County on Friday afternoon, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

An FHP crash report stated a 69-year-old Winter Garden man was driving a 2021 Toyota Camry southbound on Avalon Road approaching the intersection of Old YMCA Road in the outside lane at 2:43 p.m.
The woman on the scooter was traveling eastbound in the crosswalk of the intersection without a helmet, the report stated.

When the driver proceeded through the intersection on a green traffic signal, the pedestrian entered the direct path of the vehicle and as a result, the front of the vehicle struck her.
The driver was not injured and remained on scene while the pedestrian was transported to Orlando Health Horizon West Hospital and pronounced deceased.
