The Bears opened the season with four consecutive losses. Dycus was 12-32 at the school. He said Saturday via email, “I stepped down as the HC this past Thursday for personal reasons.”
Also gone is Dycus’ son, offensive coordinator Walker Dycus.

Winter Springs named defensive coordinator Alford Green as interim head coach. Athletic director Mike Bradley said it was too soon to discuss the school’s plan for filling the position.
Green was in charge Friday night and guided Winter Springs to its first victory of the season, a 14-0 victory over Lyman.
“Taking it day by day. (Dycus) just resigned the other day and we named coach Green on Thursday,” Bradley said. “We played on Friday and now I’m just trying to enjoy the weekend.”
There was an alleged altercation between Dycus and a player’s parent in the locker room following Monday night’s 42-8 loss to New Smyrna Beach. The incident has been confirmed by two sources close to the Winter Springs program who did not want to be identified.

Bradley declined to elaborate on why Dycus decided to quit as coach.
“I got no comment on anything other than that coach Dycus resigned,” Bradley said.
Dycus appeared to have had the Winter Springs program headed in the right direction after a difficult start. The Bears lost four straight games to end the 2021 season. Dycus took over in 2022, but Winter Springs was winless that year and in 2023, losing 24 consecutive games.
The Bears turned a corner in 2024, going 5-4. Last year, they qualified for the FHSAA playoffs for the first time since winning a district title in 2019.
Winter Springs was 7-4 in 2025 and was eliminated by Tampa Gaither 56-0 in the first round of the playoffs. Going into this season, things appeared to be looking up. The Bears, however, stumbled out of the gate, losing four straight before winning Friday night.
