Redshirt junior running back Marty Brown suffered a season-ending injury, UM coach Mario Cristobal said on WQAM’s “The Joe Rose Show” on Monday morning.
“He’s going to be out for the rest of the season,” Cristobal said.
Wide receiver Josh Moore also suffered an “upper body” injury that will keep him out for the season, Cristobal said.
Linebacker Ezekiel Marcelin Jr. suffered an injury that will keep him out for several weeks, as well.
“It’s a shame because he was playing high-level football and was now sharing reps with the ones and was going to play even a more significant role,” Cristobal said.
Cristobal said he expects running back Mark Fletcher Jr. and wide receiver Malachi Toney to be OK after they were banged up against Wake Forest. Defensive tackle Ahmad Moten Sr. left the Wake Forest game with an injury but quickly returned; Cristobal expects Moten to be OK, as well.
“We got banged up,” Cristobal said. “An interesting kind of situation, but day-to-day.”
Brown suffered the apparent knee injury during a 32-yard run in the second quarter. Brown struggled to get off the field with assistance and then had to be carted from the sideline.

Brown is in his second season with Miami. Last year, he was the Hurricanes’ No. 2 running back, notching 474 yards and seven touchdowns. The 5-foot-11, 220-pound running back had 97 yards and one score this season.
Without Brown, the Hurricanes’ running-back depth takes a hit. Miami has its lead back, Fletcher, and the depth gets murkier after that. Freshman Javian Mallory has the second-most carries (20), yards (196) and rushing touchdowns (two) so far this season. The Hurricanes also have sophomore Girard Pringle Jr., who has rushed for 38 yards and one touchdown on 14 carries.
Miami also has junior Jordan Lyle, who was arrested in August on charges of fleeing police and reckless driving; the fleeing police charge was dropped on Sept. 9. Cristobal has not said whether the team has punished Lyle officially, but Lyle has not played in UM’s first three games. He dressed for the game against Wake Forest and was not listed on the conference’s availability report before the game.
Cristobal said Lyle is available to play.
“He did serve the consequences that come with the issue,” Cristobal said. “He has been practicing with the team and certainly, he’s back and activated.”
Moore was poised for a big season for the Hurricanes. He had seven catches for 107 yards and two touchdowns this season.
Moore was part of a group competing for a starting role at wide receiver, along with sophomore Daylyn Upshaw and transfer Vandrevius Jacobs. Moore started the Hurricanes’ season opener against Stanford and rotated onto the field in UM’s last two games.
