Leslie Varley, 57, of Framingham, Massachusetts, was visiting Disney’s Contemporary Resort on May 19 for an 8:30 p.m. dinner reservation at the hotel’s Steakhouse 71 restaurant. She had a large party with her, including her daughter.

But what was supposed to be a happy night began to fall apart when the party was told they had too many members to sit together, and that they couldn’t move tables around to allow it. Varley then grabbed the restaurant manager by both shoulders and moved her about six steps away, her arrest affidavit said.

The manager excused herself and another employee arrived to help. Varley then threw three cups of water and ice at the employee, snatched his nametag off his suit jacket and broke four glasses by dropping them on the floor, according to what staff told police in the affidavit.

Court records show Varley was ultimately charged with criminal mischief and two counts of battery.

She told deputies she had thrown water at the second employee because he had made a comment about her daughter, who is disabled, touching one of the cast members. She said she took his nametag because she wanted to see his name so she could report him to management.

Varley was given a trespass warning and told she could be arrested again if she returned to the hotel. Her arraignment is scheduled for July 2.
