Kevin Millares, 27, faces an attempted murder charge for the June 8 shooting near a bus stop in an Azalea Park neighborhood, according to a partially-redacted affidavit released by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office said.
The 70-year-old victim told investigators she was on her daily walk along Egan Drive when she saw a man heading toward her. When she turned around to walk away, he shot her three times in the back.
Investigators said the woman wasn’t familiar with the shooter and doesn’t know why he shot her, according to the affidavit. The woman survived, but had to undergo surgery for her injuries.

Deputies were able to get surveillance videos from nearby houses which they said show the suspect walking around the neighborhood prior to the shooting. That led them to a house near the scene, where neighbors identified Millares as the man in the videos, according to the affidavit.
The Sheriff’s Office said they learned Millares fled to New York shortly after the shooting. He was taken to the Rikers Island jail following his arrest and awaits extradition back to Florida.
