Burrell, the 2023 G League coach of the year, has worked as an NBA assistant coach with the Portland Trail Blazers and Brooklyn Nets across the last three seasons. HoopsHype’s Mike Scotto first reported the hire.

Burrell replaces Dylan Murphy, who departed Osceola in early August to join Mike Boynton Jr.’s staff at the University of Michigan as an assistant coach. Under Murphy, Osceola finished each of the past three regular seasons atop the G League’s Eastern Conference and reached the G League Finals in 2025.

The year Burrell won the G League’s top coaching honor, he led the Long Island Nets to a 23-9 record and an appearance in the G League’s Eastern Conference Finals.

Burrell spent the 2021-22 season as an assistant coach with the College Park Skyhawks, the G League affiliate of the Atlanta Hawks, and the previous year as a player development coordinator with the Chicago Bulls.

Burrell later received a master’s degree in business administration with a concentration in sports management at Florida Atlantic University.

Under Burrell, Osceola opens the 2026-27 G League season on Nov. 8 at 3 p.m. inside Osceola Heritage Park against the Oklahoma City Blue.
