Defending state champion Lake Mary, which had not lost since last October, saw its seven-game winning streak come to an end Friday night at the hands of Osceola 17-9. Also Friday, four Orlando-area teams — Oviedo, St. Cloud, The First Academy and Winter Park — all needed overtime to come away with victories. Edgewater handed Windermere its second straight loss after the Wolverines had won 22 consecutive games.

Bishop Moore was victorious for the first time this season, giving head coach Matt Hedrick his 200th career win 42-13 over Melbourne Central Catholic. Seminole remained unbeaten with a 27-13 victory over Eau Gallie and West Orange throttled Wekiva 50-6 to round out the Sentinel’s Super 16 Coaches Poll Top 10.
No. 15 Osceola defeated No. 5 Lake Mary 17-9
Osceola lived up to its traditionally-powerful defensive reputation, forcing four Lake Mary turnovers on the road.
The Kowboys (2-1) held the Rams (1-1), the Class 7A state champion a year ago, to five yards of offense in the first half of a game delayed two hours by lightning.
Osceola got first-half interceptions from Dorian Wright and Amir Davis and fumble recoveries by Dory Thimote and Jason Lewis in the second half, to counter Lake Mary quarterback Remy Jarman (12-for-25 passing for 131 yards) leading two scoring drives in the second half.
“From a defensive perspective, we played great,” OHS Coach Eric Pinellas said. “Our defensive line was outstanding, and our DBs covered all night. From an offensive perspective we were physical, we wore them down up front, and we ran hard.”
No. 2 TFA defeated Port Charlotte 23-20 (OT)
The Royals (3-0) used a 48-yard field goal by Vance Fones at the buzzer to force overtime in a 20-20 tie. The First Academy then pulled out the victory with another field goal by Fones, this one from 35 yards, in the overtime. Port Charlotte missed a field goal attempt to tie the game. Vance had three field goals, his first one also 48 yards.
The host Pirates opened the game with a surprise onside kick recovery, and drove for a touchdown. TFA lost a fumble on its next possession, and Port Charlotte turned it into another TD for a 13-0 lead.
TFA got touchdowns from sophomores Bryscen Robb and Jdeion Jackson.
No. 11 Oviedo defeated No. 13 Lake Brantley 35-28 (OT)
Oviedo football coach Greg Odierno was starting to think the football gods had something against him.
After watching opponents kick game-winning field goals in the final seconds of the Lions first two games, they were sitting 0-2 with losses by a total of three points.
Oviedo (1-2) led 21-7 at halftime, but Brantley (2-1) scored three straight touchdowns in the second half to take a 28-21 with only 2:03 left in the game.
Lions quarterback Sebastian Galeano hooked up with receiver Jordan Donahoo, an Ohio State commit, on consecutive passing plays — one for 40 yards and the second for a 30-yard touchdown to tie the game with 1:34 left.
In OT, Galeano scored on a fourth-down play from the 3 yard line and the game ended with four straight incomplete passes by Lake Brantley quarterback Jackson Stecher.
“Whew, it’s about time,” Odierno said of the win. “I’m just proud of our guys. We had our backs against the wall we came through and we needed to. A total team effort. That’s a good football team, Lake Brantley.”
Oviedo running back Johnnie Cobbs carried the ball 16 times for 179 yards and two touchdowns. Carmari Solomon had a 70-yard punt return for a TD and an interception in the first half.

Stecher was 23 of 37 passing for 201 yards and two touchdowns.
“We certainly did not have the start that we wanted,” Lake Brantley coach Garrett Kruczek said. “They’re a well-coached team. I was proud of our guys coming back and fighting through adversity. If you take away the slow start, I think things would have been a little bit different, but the game of football is made of two halves. We played a great second half. We just have to start a little bit faster than we did.”
No. 14 St. Cloud defeated South Sumter 41-34 (2 OTs)
Matthew Blenman caught an 8-yard scoring pass from Jeremiah Lattier to push the Bulldogs to victory in the second overtime. Lattier had a 1-yard QB sneak to tie the game in the first OT.
St. Cloud (2-1) led 20-7 after a Robert Rodriguez 70-yard kickoff return. Khalil Davis also had a 66-yard interception return. Michael Cuyler and Jaden Taylor-Irons had touchdowns.
No. 16 Winter Park defeated No. 9 Lake Nona 13-10 (OT)
Jordan DeJesus had a pair of touchdown runs, including the game-winner in overtime for Winter Park (2-1). The Wildcats Alex Fu had a 21-yard field goal to force OT.
Lake Nona (2-1) quarterback Elijah Nickerson did not play in the game, the second of a two-game suspension for an incident following Lake Nona’s opening-night win over Evans.
No. 4 Edgewater defeated Windermere, 42-28
Running back Jaelyn Powell had 215 yards rushing and scored four touchdowns for Edgewater (2-1). Windermere (1-2) got three touchdown passes from Dean Monroe and a 60-yard punt return from speedy Onix Vazquez.
No. 6 West Orange defeated Wekiva 59-6
Junior quarterback AJ Chung threw for 174 yards and three touchdowns, all in the first half. West Orange (3-0) receiver Yuto Kawamura-Johnson caught two of the TDs for 61 and 42 yards. Corey Glen Jr., had a pick-6 interception and Matheus Kaminski-Cordeiro recovered a fumble in the end zone.
No. 7 Seminole defeated Eau Gallie 27-13
The Seminoles (3-0) used running backs by committee and quarterback Daniel Proenza ran for 110 yards and a touchdown. Proenza also completed 8-of-11 passes for 120 yards and a TD.
JoJo Watson had an interception and a 72 yard blocked-field goal return for a touchdown in the win. Antrell Armstrong had 8 tackles, an interception and a blocked kick.
No. 10 Bishop Moore defeated Melbourne Central Catholic 42-13
Bishop Moore (1-2) quarterback Blake McCullough threw for 269 yards and four touchdowns as the Hornets picked up their first win of the season.
“It’s no fun to lose your first two games, period,” Hedrick said. “We played some good teams and we lose some opportunities. Getting a win is good going into district play.”
