Central Florida Zoo & Biological Gardens is looking for some boogie fever to hit Sanford. The attraction will celebrate its 50th anniversay with a throwback event on June 13.  It’s dubbed Zoodio 50 Disco Party.

The adults-only fundraiser will feature dinner and a dance floor that harkens back to the ’70s.  Disco-inspired clothing is encouraged for the event.

Tickets include the meal plus two drink tickets, a live DJ and “after-hours zoo experiences.”  Admission is $100 per person or $150 per couple.  There is a capacity of 200 participants.  Event hours are 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. The tickets helps support animal care, wildlife conservation and education programs.  The zoo recently made headlines for taking in sloths from a planned (but now abandoned) International Drive attraction.

The zoo is a not-for-profil organization and is home to more than 350 animals, including birds, reptiles, amphibians and mammals such as monkeys, lemurs, goats, cheetahs, giraffe, a greater one-horned rhinocerous and more.  It is accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums.

In other zoo-related news:

• The attraction has shifted to its summer operating hours, designed for cooler morning visits.  The zoo will be open daily from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.  That’s a shift of one hour earlier at each end of the day.

• Fathers and grandfathers will receive free entry  with the purchase of a general admission ticket on June 21, aka Fathers Day. This offer must be purchased at the attraction gate.
