A sinkhole that opened early Friday has closed a portion of Wymore Road in Maitland, forcing motorists to find alternate routes for the next several days, according to city officials. About 25 feet wide and roughly 4 feet deep, the crater formed under the roadway just east of Interstate 4 and south of the entrance to the Maitland Club neighborhood at Brightwater Circle. It was reported just after midnight, officials said. Although the sinkhole is in the city of Maitland, that portion of Wymore Road is maintained by Orange County. County crews were on the scene Friday morning to take measurements. Until the hole is stabilized and filled, drivers will be directed to use Oranole Road to the north, Maitland Avenue to the east, Lake Destiny Road to the west, and Maitland Boulevard to the south.
