A Central Florida man accused of trespassing on property he had previously been allowed to stay in was shot dead Tuesday night in DeLand, according to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office.

At 10.47 p.m., a caller told a dispatch agent that he had shot a trespasser on his property on Boulevard Court, according to a press release from the sheriff’s office.
When deputies arrived, the caller met deputies with his hands up, while the man he shot multiple times was lying in the driveway.
The man, who was not identified, died on the scene, the release stated.
Detectives discovered the deceased man had lived at the property on and off but had been barred from living there, according to the report.

The shooter found the deceased asleep in the laundry room, which led to an argument and the initial call for trespassing.
During the argument, the shooter said the trespasser advanced on him despite warnings to get back or he would be shot. The shooter then fired several rounds, according to the report.

The investigation remains ongoing, the report stated.
