Shortly after 11 a.m. July 23, officers were called to a home in the Meadows of Boynton Beach neighborhood after the girl was not breathing when she was found by her babysitter’s spouse, police said. The girl’s head was stuck in the play set, Boynton Beach Police said. She was taken to a hospital in critical condition.
Four days later, the girl was pronounced dead, Chelsea Sanabia, Boynton Beach Police spokesperson, said in a statement Monday.
The girl and her sibling had been at the home of their babysitter, who left at some point that morning, according to a news release issued July 24. The children were then under the care of the babysitter’s spouse, who stayed upstairs while the children were playing downstairs.
The babysitter’s spouse was “periodically checking on the children and giving them snacks,” the police department previously said.

When the spouse came downstairs at one point to check on them, the 3-year-old was stuck in the play set. She became stuck while trying to reach toys that fell into the play set, her sibling told police.
The babysitter’s spouse freed the girl, and officers started CPR when they arrived, according to the news release.
The police department as of Monday has not released additional information about the investigation or identifying information about the children or the adults who were caring for them.
