Disney theme park fans will be getting updates and perhaps newsy announcements during Saturday night’s D23 event dubbed Horizons: A Carousel of Progress. The session will be seen on the Disney+ streaming platform at 10 p.m.

The proceedings will be hosted by actor Neil Patrick Harris and feature a fleet of Walt Disney Co. executives and Imagineers.
“Fans can expect project updates, first looks, new artwork and renderings, behind-the-scenes stories, creative insights and a closer look at how some of Disney Experiences’ most ambitious projects are progressing,” according to a post on the official Disney Parks Blog. “We’re pulling back the curtain on the work, collaboration and imagination of many of the experiences in development that Disney fans are eagerly following.”
The events of D23, Disney’s official fan club, customarily have featured dramatic announcements of future attractions. In 2015, CEO Bob Iger announced the development of what would eventually be known as Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge for Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Disneyland. In 2017, Disney revealed plans to replace the Great Movie Ride with Runaway Railway, to add “Guardians of the Galaxy” and “Ratatouille” rides at Epcot, the introduction of the Minnie Van service at Disney World and the company’s “most experiential concept ever,” the future (and now closed) Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser.

Epcot’s Spaceship Earth could be turned into TV show
Last year at a D23 event, it was announced that an animatronic version of Walt Disney himself would front Magic Kingdom’s updated Carousel of Progress attraction. The Horizons session subtitle plays off that classic attraction, which currently is closed for remodeling and scheduled to reopen in 2017.
Among the participants Saturday evening are Disney Experiences Chairman Thomas Mazloum; Bruce Vaughn, president of Walt Disney Imagineering; Michael Hundgen, vice president creative, Walt Disney World; Caroline May, executive creative director, Walt Disney World; Chris Beatty, portfolio executive creative director, Walt Disney World; and Jason Grandt, executive creative director, Walt Disney World.
