The scammers contacted the 82-year-old woman by phone and convinced her they were FBI agents investigating bank fraud. They arranged for her to give them $18,400, Windermere police said in a Tuesday news release.
One of the scammers, a woman posing as an FBI courier, drove to the victim’s home Tuesday in a silver Toyota and picked up the money, which had been stored in a shoebox, according to the release. She was caught on surveillance footage, although her face is obscured.
Windermere police Chief David Ogden asked the public for assistance in identifying the woman in the footage and urged people to stay on alert for similar threats.

“Please talk with your loved ones about these scams,” Ogden said. “If someone claiming to represent law enforcement asks you to withdraw money and hand it to a courier, stop and contact your local police department.”
Anyone with information about the scheme is asked to contact Windermere police Sgt. John Allen at 407-909-5306 or [email protected]. The investigation remains ongoing.
