Federal Aviation Authorities on Sunday worked to disassemble a small-engine plane that they removed from the ocean off Boca Raton after the plane crashed in the water on Saturday.

The crash happened about 10:25 a.m. Saturday in the ocean off 250 S. Ocean Boulevard after the pilot notified authorities of mechanical issues, police said.
The pilot had been expected to land at Boca Raton Airport, city police said. However, a short time later, the aircraft, a Piper 30A, landed in the ocean.
The pilot was identified as a 23-year-old woman who climbed out of the plane uninjured, according to Gulf Coast News, which interviewed the pilot Saturday. She said she had been a pilot for four years.
Authorities said the plane left Page Field in Fort Myers and had been headed to Bimini Airport in the Bahamas.

Boca Raton Ocean Rescue responded to the crash site and assisted the pilot from the aircraft. The pilot was the only person on board. She was taken to a hospital as a precaution.
Boca Raton Police, including its Marine Unit, said they worked Sunday to recover and remove the aircraft from the water with assistance from the U.S. Coast Guard.
Later Sunday, WPLG reported that “crews had removed the Piper PA30 series twin-engine propeller plane from the water near South Beach Park and were placing it on the bed of a semi-truck.”
The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the incident. The plane is now at the Silver Palm Boat Ramp.
