The California-based grocer filed for building permits with the City of Orlando for the interior buildout of the former Burlington store at 3001 E Colonial Dr. The 12,500-square-foot store will be tucked between the anchor SuperTarget and a LA Fitness, which leases 50,000 square feet in the center. Discount retailer Sierra, a part of the TJX Companies, will occupy the 23,284 square feet next to Trader Joe’s, according to leasing materials from Brixmore Properties, which owns the center.
Shake Shack and Jeff’s Bagel Run recently moved into the center, and Zen Dumplings has leased over 5,000 square feet, according to Brixmore.
By the time of its opening, this could be the sixth Trader Joe’s in the Orlando market, where the company currently operates stores in Winter Park and Dr. Phillips. The grocer will open its third store in East Orlando later this year or in early 2027. Trader Joe’s is retrofitting the former Party City store in the Waterford Oaks shopping center at 1444 N. Alafaya Trail.
GrowthSpotter reported in early December based on interviews and city documents that Trader Joe’s was also setting its sights on Kissimmee and Maitland for continued expansion, though the company has not acknowledged either of those locations.

North American Development Group, the Toronto-based company that owns the Loop West shopping center, has approved construction plans from the City of Kissimmee for a new 12,500-square-foot grocery store on the retail pad north of JCPenney.
The Maitland store will be constructed in the Trelago Market shopping center.
Trader Joe’s launched a rapid expansion plan in 2025, opening 43 new stores across the country that year and dozens more this year. The company has announced plans to open 30 new stores in 2027. The small-format stores are known for private-label, low-cost, and unique seasonal items, such as Teeny Tiny Pumpkin Pies and Maple Leaf Ice Cream Sandwiches.
